Ben Stiller will be honoured for his contribution to Hollywood at a lavish film ceremony, reports IMDB.

The Tropic Thunder star has been selected as this year’s honouree for the Museum of the Moving Image’s 24th annual black-tie salute.

Stiller’s colleagues are expected to pay tribute to the star and present clips from his film career.

The event, which benefits education programmes, will take place on 12 November in New York.

Momi director Rochelle Slovin says, “Ben Stiller is one of the great talents of American entertainment: a memorable actor, an accomplished director and writer, an Emmy Award winner and an innovative producer.”

Last year’s recipient of the honour was Tom Cruise. Previous recipients have included Robert De Niro and Dustin Hoffman.

Actor John Spencer, who won an Emmy award for playing chief of staff Leo McGarry on The West Wing, died Friday of a heart attack; he was 58. Spencer’s publicist, Ron Hoffman, said that Spencer died at a Los Angeles hospital, and no further details were available at press time. Seriously, he was one of our finest actors, who seemed to have had a blast playing COS Leo McGarry on The West Wing (which I’d call one of the finest dramas in television history.) these past 7 years.

He will be missed.

HackingNetflix has an interesting article about how DVD sales are slowing and people can’t figure out why. However, nobody’s mentioned my theory, that in the 8-10 years that DVDs have been out, most of peoples wishlists for movies they’d like to repurchase in a new format have been filled. Most of the big milestones are either done (citizen kane, casablanca, most of the rest of the IMDB 250) or coming (King Kong, Batman, etc).

Halle Berry received the Razzie (otherwise known as the anti-Oscar�, given to the worst films/performances of the year) for her…um…stirring performance in CrapCatwoman.

Instead of getting all huffy, she showed up to accept her award and recreated her Oscar� speech, tears and all, before proceeding to thank Warner Brothers for “casting her in this piece of shit movie”
