Thanks to my bud Cory for hooking me up with the AC/DC catalogue (hey look Cor, you finally made it into a post!), once again proving that they are the greatest rock and roll band of all time.
I’m always on the lookout for more bands who strive toward AC/DC-style godliness, and just happened to come across one called Supagroup from New Orleans who do a pretty passable version. [MySpace]
Oh, and also they’re going to be playing the Beacon Theater with none other than Whitesnake at the end of July. How rock ‘n’ roll is that.
Another more local band is The Compulsions, who are on MySpace
I, as always, would love to hear if y’all have any other recommendations (other than The Donnas who I know about.

When I first heard The National’s album “Alligator” I was not impressed, and it quickly got deleted tossed into the discard pile. However, upon relistening to it online, it’s grown on me.
Some nice melancholy, this. Like Brad Roberts fronting Low with a bit of Nick Drakeyness and Post-Punk thrown in.

- Do it in 6/8 time
- Include any of the following in the bridge or chorus: Banjo, Accordion, Harmonica, Acoustic Guitar, Tambourine, Ride Cymbal
- Have an ending, rather than a fade-out
- Include close harmony backing vocals.
Examples: Matchbox 20 “Bright Lights”, Ari Hest “Someone to Tell”, Travis “Sing”, Trashacan Sinatras “All the Dark Horses”
Am I missing any that I should know about?

My bud S. Christian @ Warp posted this vid of Jamie Lidell live doing his thing, and I must say I’m very impressed. I’ll definitely be catchin him when he makes his way inevitably to irving plaza. Live hip-hoppy Underworldy acapella real-time sampling layered multi track overdub goodness, this is.
And yes, today Yoda I am, apparently.
